About 100 people attended the funeral of the much-loved and well-respected Dubbo man at St Brigid's Catholic Church in Brisbane Street.
His family sat together while representatives of the many community groups Mr Hopkins was involved with over the years spoke fondly of a man who had given his time freely and generously.
Members of the Dubbo Ducks, Legacy, St Vincent de Paul and Dubbo RSL Sub Branch attended to bid a sad farewell to a respected friend.
Dubbo RSL Sub Branch President Tom Gray said the service was befitting of Mr Hopkins.
"It is a sad loss but there's no doubt that Kevin lived a great life," he said.
"Kevin had been a member of the sub branch since 1961 and led our parades for 50 years, he was one of our original volunteers."
Fellow legatee Bob Browne said the requiem mass was "very moving."
"He was a great veteran who did so much for the community," he said.
Former Branch President Greg Salmon said the mass was a "wonderful acknowledgement of a great man's life."
Fr Patrick Ruane led the service and reflected on a life well lived.
"He made God visible to us all and led an exemplary life," he said.
"We have to ask the question, 'What gave Kevin the edge?' I think he was a dweller amid the mountain tops,"
Fr Ruane said we live the way we see things, and he said "the 94-year- old saw the world as love."
Mr Hopkins was laid to rest at the New Dubbo Cemetery and family and friends attended a wake at the West Dubbo Bowling Club.
