One resident told the Daily Liberal he thought he heard arguing then a loud bang.
"It sounded like someone was yelling 'you shot me, you shot me', then 'look at my hand'," he said.
He said when he first heard raised voices he did not think too much of it.
"In this part of town we're always hearing people yelling things like 'I'm gonna kill you' or 'I'm gonna fight you'," he said.
"So you really don't take much notice. But we took notice of the bang. Even then, I thought they'd just blown up another letterbox. We had to get a new letterbox after someone blew ours up."
Another resident said she looked outside after hearing the bang but it was difficult to see anything.
"The lighting there's not real good, it has been in the past but the lights just get smashed and don't get replaced."
One resident said he thought the bang woke him before he heard "a big commotion".
"There are always disagreements and fights around here but I heard someone shouting 'Help me! Help me!'," he said.
Another said he heard 'lots of yelling' and swearing.
"This street is like an alleyway, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, where people just walk up and down shouting at each other, and a lot of kids go up and down on scooters and motorbikes, I mean, 1am and they're really little kids," he said.
"So I just thought it was pretty normal noise then just went back to sleep. When I woke up about 4am I saw heaps of police and an ambulance."
A neighbour agreed the neighbourhood was a hotspot for anti-social behaviour.
"Yep, I've just been sweeping up the broken glass from the verge - they break bottles up and down here all the time."
