The educational RYDA program is a community based initiative for high school students, coordinated through Rotary Clubs.
RYDA will kick off in regional NSW with a visit to Bathurst and Leeton this month, before going to Cowra, Wagga Wagga, Orange and finally Dubbo.
Program director Greg Rappo said education was the key to stopping an over representation of car accidents among young people.
"It is a national tragedy that one young person aged 17 to 25 dies nearly every single day of the year on Australian roads," Mr Rappo said.
"And while hundreds of young people die on our roads every year, for each one of those 20 or more suffer life changing situations such as brain and spinal injuries."
There were a number of reasons while young people were at such high risk, Mr Rappo said.
"Their brains are still developing, they exhibit sensation-seeking behaviour, they are greatly influenced by peer pressure, they often drive less road-worthy cars, can be sleepy and often drive at night or for 'fun'," he said.
However, education was having an impact.
"We have seen a 47 per cent reduction in youth road death for drivers aged between 17 and 24 over the past four years in Australia. An encouraging result but our work is not done; one life lost is one too many."
