Mr Abdi, wearing red in honour of Valentine's Day, ran the five kilometres in 15 minutes and 48 seconds.
Known for the 3000 metre steeplechase, he was in town for the Little Athletics NSW Regional Championships.
"I did the parkrun because obviously I like running and I support the parkrun," he said.
"It was a pleasure to get out there and run with them. It's probably not every day in Dubbo they get to run with an Olympian."
It would be hard for someone to break his time, Mr Abdi said, but not impossible.
Parkrun event director Miriam Tan said 330 people attended, including visitors from Orange, and Mr Abdi.
The runners embraced the Valentine's Day theme.
"A lot of people dressed up in red, some brought balloons and one person had wings," Ms Tan said.
"We do a spiel beforehand and I say 'is there anyone here for the first time?' and they put up their hands and I said 'did your Valentine bring you along?' and they said 'yes'."
Marathon Health donated heart-shaped bits of watermelon.
The numbers weren't as high as previous weeks, but Ms Tan said it was most likely due to events like the Little Athletics.
Mr Abdi was full of praise for parkrun and Dubbo itself.
"There's a lot of green spaces and parks. I was very impressed by all the footy fields, the soccer, cricket. I definitely will try very hard to be back in the future," he said.
