The Smith Family's Saver Plus program is a $500 incentive for families to set a goal to help them save money for their children's education costs.
Participants set a goal to save between $5 and $50 a month consistently for a 10-month period, sponsors then match their savings dollar-for-dollar.
Dubbo mum Malinda Bateup joined the savings program and was able to successfully save $500 through simple saving techniques.
"Times are getting hard, especially things like school expenses," she said.
Ms Bateup has two sons Billy, who is in year 8 and Thomas who is in year 6.
She said school items such as uniforms were costly with two growing boys, with clothing such as school shoes cost as high as $100.
Through the savings she made, Ms Bateup was also able to purchase her sons a new laptop.
"I've always wanted to buy the boys a new laptop, and it's something I would never have been able to do before," she said.
Ms Bateup said she'd heard of the Saver Plus program a few years before she joined, and only wished she'd signed up sooner.
"You don't have to put away a lot (into your savings account), you've just got to commit a certain amount of money," she said.
Participants also attend four meetings while on the program, in which they learn basic home budgets, how to save money by not wasting it, identifying spending leaks, what is a need and what is simply a want.
Super Saver participants open an ANZ Progress Saver account, in which they deposit their savings.
"I was blown away with the savings," Ms Bateup said.
"It is really nice to know you can save and pay for things when you need to, rather than asking yourself if you can afford it."
Ms Bateup said by being on the program she has become more mindful on her what she spends her extra money on.
"It has definitely made me more aware on what I'm spending," she said.
"The program is a great way to keep yourself in check."
