Dietitians at the Dubbo Community Health Centre are planning to show them how to drop kilograms during Australia's Healthy Weight Week from February 15.
The dietitians will set up a stall at Orana Mall on February 16 from where they will teach interested members of the public to compare the fat and sugar content of food and read food labels.
Supermarket tours to check out "healthy and unhealthy options" have been scheduled along with the measuring of Body Mass Index.
The event is also being promoted as an opportunity to meet the dietitians, receive "updated and correct" nutrition information, and learn of the many programs running in Dubbo that aim to improve the health of adults and children.
Dietitian Leslie Tang reports that obtaining support and "correct information" can dramatically increase the chances of losing weight.
"Australia's Healthy Weight Week helps raise awareness of the importance of achieving and maintaining a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle," he said.
"With statistics for overweight and obesity as high as 63 per cent in Australian adults and 25 per cent in Australian children, and health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and some cancers becoming more common, it has never been a better time to improve your family's health, eating, weight and fitness."
In mid-2015 the Heart Foundation advised that the communities of Far West NSW and the Orana Region were among the most overweight and obese in the state.
The Orana Mall stall will be operating from 9am to 1pm with bookings for the supermarket tours essential by calling 6885 8999.
