Parsons combined with trainer Shannon Rye, also based at Cowra, to take out the Daily Liberal Pace (1720m), the opening event of the eight-race meeting.

Eight-year-old Hurrysound came into the race having not won in 13 starts and some at the track were concerned if it had the form to justify the $1.80 favourite's tag.

But Parsons produced a clinical drive to lead the progeny of Safe And Sound and Lady Arios to a dominant 12.4m win.

"He's been knocking on the door and going really good and he was in a really nice race tonight and broke through," the winning driver said.

"He should have won at Wagga the other night but they hammered him and he just fell short on the line but he has been going really, really good."

The win was an extremely satisfying one for both trainer and driver and was done in the hugely impressive mile rate of 1:57.6, the fastest of the night.

"He's been racing up in grade and racing some really nice horses, some of Steve Turnbull's, and they've been racing at Menangle and winning," she said.

"I really want to get a win at Menangle so hopefully he might be able to be the horse to take down and at least run a nice race down there."

Starting in the front row on Wednesday, Parsons immediately got the lead and that was where she stayed.

Highjackapipi ($9.20), driven by John O'Shea, and the Jason Gaffney-trained Go Lassie Go ($4.20) threatened early on but Hurrysound's win was never in much doubt and the lead extended as the race went on.

Go Lassie Go finished second, edging out Nathan Hurst and Flip Wilson ($7.40) by a neck.

"That's his go and what he likes doing, out in front going along and he was happy doing it," Parsons said.

"He's got speed and that was the idea, run them off their legs and that's what he did."

While O'Shea missed out in the opening event he was the only driver to score a double on the night.

He took out the second and third events of the night, winning with Buzzy Bowen and Bacchus Raucous respectively.
