Pay will have two drives at the club's bumper Australia Day meeting, including one for his grandfather Greg.
The youngster will also return to school on Friday but will have a spring in his step after spending roughly a month of the recent school holidays under the tutelage of one of the sports biggest names.
Steve Turnbull, who trained more than 200 winners last season, gave Pay an insight into the way he runs his stables at The Lagoon and the rising Dubbo driver said it was invaluable.
"It was really good," he said.
"I was there for a couple of weeks before Christmas and then I was home and on holiday with the family at the coast and then I went back on New Year's Eve for a couple of weeks so I was there for about a month.
"Just the experience was really good.
"He can just tell you what to do and I reckon he's one of the best in the sport."
Pay will get another chance to show off what he's learnt when he lines up in the first event at Parkes on Tuesday, the Col Fletcher Ford Pace (1660m).
The race is also special for Pay as he will be in the gig of Sanity Claus, a horse trained by his grandfather and the one he had his first career win with.
"He's always a good one and I got my first winner on him so he's alright," Pay said.
"He drew bad for over the mile but we'll just have to see what happens from the gate.
"I might have to go out because he's a bit one-paced but he's really tough on his day so we'll have to wait and see."
Pay's other drive for the night is a new one for the St John's student, Medonc.
Trained by Sid Kiriakou, Medonc has a record of four wins from 45 starts and comes into the Alabar Conditioned Pace (2040m) without a win since November 2014.
"I haven't had a drive for him before but I'm really looking forward to it," Pay said.
"I'll ask him (Sid) what he wants and then have a good look at him in the warm-up."
Pay added he would continue looking for more drives now he was back at Dubbo as he combined his passion with his school life.
The 10-race meeting at Parkes gets under way with the first at 6.09pm.
