The recycling centre, which has been operational since September, will collect items such as gas bottles, paints, used oils, batteries and florescent tubes.
Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson said the centre was half-funded by a $86,932 grant from the NSW government, with the rest of the cost coming from Dubbo City Council.
"The thing that we're trying to do more and more of is to keep things out of landfill as much as possible and get them into some sort of process where they'll be recyclable or able to be disposed of safely," Cr Dickerson said.
"It's good for Dubbo, residents will be able to bring [the waste] here to the drop-off centre, it's good for the entire region, because households will be able to bring their items here and take those things out of landfill."
Cr Dickerson said the once-a-year Household Chemical CleanOut at the Dubbo Showground would continue but the recycling centre would provide a year-round alternative.
The centre is the 26th of 100 to be opened across the state.
Dubbo MP and Deputy Premier Troy Grant said the recycling centre was a great example of a partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
"The demand on council and community with the scope and scale of waste is only getting greater and greater and the environmental impacts from that waste are growing exponentially so we've got to look at more inventive ways to recycle and manage our waste," Mr Grant said.
Mr Grant said the recycling centre was part of the jigsaw puzzle of council's overall waste management strategy.
EPA unit head Amanda Kane said the idea behind the Dubbo Community Recycling Centre was to make it as safe and as easy as possible for people to dispose of their waste.
Dubbo City Council asset systems engineer Michael McCulloch said he wanted to acknowledge Netwaste for their assistance in applying for the grant.
