Dubbo City Swimtech and Orana Aquatic Swimming Club collaborated in an application for funding to upgrade the clubroom at the Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre with air conditioning, a new kitchen and security.
They anticipate the project will help them support more people in the community to participate in the sport, whether for fitness, fun or competition.
Dubbo City Swimtech registrar Cath Osborne reported the clubroom was a "fantastic space" but not being used to its full potential because of its lack of air conditioning and its kitchen, still in its original state.
The two clubs recently celebrated when Dubbo MP Troy Grant announced the project would receive $15,000 under the Community Building Partnerships program.
Ms Osborne said it meant the refurbishment could take place in coming months rather than waiting years until they had done enough fundraising.
"We were really excited, we would often daydream and say wouldn't it be lovely if," Ms Osborne said.
The clubs are now looking forward to holding more social events and more development days with visiting Olympians because they'll have "a comfortable facility".
Between them the two clubs have about 450 swimmers, "the bulk of whom are aged between three and 17 years".
Ms Osborne said the clubhouse was important, with some swimmers eating breakfast there in the morning in between training and school, and others came straight to the pool after school.
"We have kids from Narromine and Trangie, this will make is so much easier for them to be involved," Ms Osborne said.
The clubs anticipated the air-conditioning system would be installed "hopefully in the next month", in time to make it more comfortable for people involved in school swimming carnivals and the western area carnival, which can draw up to 300 swimmers from across the region.
Then once the season ended in April work would begin on installing the new kitchen ahead of the pool re-opening in September.
Ms Osborne thanked Mr Grant and the government for "enhancing the facility for the local community and the region" and Dubbo City Council for its support with the project at its facility.
