The first part of that double was completed in emphatic fashion at the Gold Coast on Saturday, leaving bloodstock agent James Harron shaking, trainers Peter and Paul Snowden wondering what more is to come and jockey Blake Shinn staggered by Capitalist's attitude.

"This was the dream, to get the best colt out of the sale and I think he proved he is that," Harron said. "He has done the job we wanted him to do and we still have the Slipper ahead of us."

Capitalist was backed from $1.60 to $1.40 on track but punters were holding their breath as they charged into the first turn, the favourite scrubbing the fence with three to his outside. Shinn was able to kick through and hold his position and then by the 600-metre mark was outside leader Highland Beat, who had nearly put him over the fence at the 800 metres, and from there the race was over.

"It was tight, very tight," Shinn said. "I thought for a second I was going up the fence, but he just held his position, that was it. That is his greatest asset – his attitude and speed.

"He wanted to be there and worked with me. Once we got to the outside of the leader he was just waiting for me to let him go."

When Shinn said go the race was over in a matter of strides in the straight and he was very kind to Capitalist in the final 100 metres as he won by 2-1/2 lengths from Nikitas with Candika a half-length away in third.

"I don't want to say he is the best two-year-old that I've ridden because Sebring won a Golden Slipper and Sires Produce Stakes, but he has won a Magic Millions and is unbeaten and has it all in front of him," Shinn said.

Peter Snowden has had many good two-year-olds and won a Golden Slipper with Sepoy, but it is the untapped nature of Capitalist that has him excited.

"You never know what you have got with him; he just keeps improving," Snowden said. "It was good to get that job done because that was the race they wanted to win."

Capitalist came in to $3.50 for the Golden Slipper with the TAB after the dominant win and there were no excuses behind him.

"The best horse by a long way won the race," Nikitas' ' trainer, Kelso Wood, said. "We will wait for the winter up here and he will be a better horse then."

Candika's third gave   Steven O'Dea his biggest thrill in racing.

"She has gone super and she is still maturing," O'Dea said. "We will go home and decide what we will do. We could bring her to Sydney but there is also the winter up here."

Damian Lane pleaded guilty to careless riding on Highland Beat for having Just Orm and Capitalist tight for room at the 800m when he crossed. Stewards gave him a 10-day suspension.
