In 2014 the 2 Wheel Babes set the record when 221 women on 190 bikes converged on Ballina for the annual Babe Raid, but this record was beaten in August, 2015 by a group of 246 women in the UK.
On April 9, 2016, the women hope to reclaim their record, and to smash the record for the most women at a motorcycle meet (681).
“Officially we need 700 but unofficially we need 1,200 and the reason for that is a group in the US held a women’s only event a couple of weeks ago and they had 1,000 women, but they hadn’t registered it as a world record attempt,” Babe Raid organiser Debb Dagger said.
“They can go and lodge this [as a world record attempt] at any time before Dubbo and then they’ll be the record holders. I want to beat them so we need 1,200 bums on seats.”
Ms Dagger began organising women’s only motorcycle events about seven years ago, after years of travelling to motorcycle events nationwide and seeing that there was nothing for women.
“The Babe Raid has brought together so many different women and riders and pillions right across Australia,” she said.
“It’s a stress-free environment where people can come, embrace our passion, have a good time and it’s educational - we do motorcycle training, safety training, bike maintenance.
“There’s nothing like the Babe Raid anywhere in the world.”
While a specific venue is yet to be announced, Ms Daggar said more than 150 women have already signed up for their place in history.
She said Dubbo’s central location at the intersection of the Newell and Mitchell Highways saw it chosen as the spot for the 2 Wheel Babes’ 2016 world record attempt.
“It’s a good 8-10 hours to everyone and that’s good steady ride for most people, and the council was actually very, very supportive,” Ms Daggar said
“The community itself has embraced this event right through to the Lions Clubs, the Black Dog riders, the motels have been really accommodating and it’s really important to me that anywhere we go has good community spirit.”
