LAST Sunday 19 ducks vacated their usual pond and migrated west to the Narromine swimming pool.
With the pool being a longer distance and water temperature somewhat cooler than what they are accustomed to, the "warm-up" prior to the first event was met with some trepidation.
However the Ducks are a stoic flock and all except one ignored the several layers of goose bumps and took the plunge into the back into pristine water.
The results for each event was determined by a closest to time final.
Tom Gray was the first winner of the morning after taking out the final of the 30m freestyle final in a very close margin of -0.22.
Greg Jankowski came in second on -0.44s, John Wherritt took third place + 0.97, with Glen Smith -1.96 and Ron Everett +2 completing the line- up.
Greg Jankowski had better luck in the final of the 50m freestyle when he out swam his opposition.
Judy Walsh was next to touch, Ron Everett came in third place, Tom Gray fourth, with David Spakes making up the placings.
The flock was left wondering whether the cold water may have effected David's judgement when he announced the final event of the morning was to be a 100m freestyle with heats and final to determine the fittest of the flock.
Once again the flock did not disappoint with some very good times produced in the heats.
John Wherritt must have been doing some secret training lately as he showed a clean pair of heels to Judy Walsh, Brian Schloeffell, John McLean and Glen Smith in the final to get the blue ribbon.
Brian Schoeffell and Peter Smith had the lucky numbers.
Thank you to the staff at the Narromine pool for their hospitality.
It was a very enjoyable morning and another visit will be arranged in the new year.
This Sunday it is back to the regular pond where the flock will be swimming for the Comfort Inn City Motel monthly trophy and Christmas hams.
