A spokesperson for Castlereagh Local Area Command said officers moved on about 15 people along Aberford Street about 10.40pm on Saturday after they began arguing "in response to adverse comments posted on Facebook by a resident".
"The group was calmed and dispersed without any issue," the spokesperson said.
Police said it was one of several public order incidents Coonamble officers prevented during patrols of local streets in recent weeks. A similar incident took place about 2.45am the following day, when a group of females were about to "engage in a physical fight" along Castlereagh Street, according to police.
"Police intervened in the altercation and dispersed the group prior to any offences being committed," a police spokesperson said. "Due to the proactive patrols and quick action undertaken by Coonamble police, no injuries were sustained and no damage occurred to property as a result."
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Coonamble woman will front court next month accused of assaulting two teenagers.
Police will allege the woman was under the influence of alcohol and drugs while standing in the middle of Limerick Street, Coonamble, and the two 14-year-old girls were passengers in a vehicle that was attempting to drive around her. It will be alleged the woman punched both girls through the car's windows as it drove past.
The woman was arrested and taken to Coonamble Police Station where she continued to behave aggressively, according to a police spokesperson, threatening police and damaging police property. She will appear before Coonamble Local Court on December 17, in relation to two charges of common assault, offensive language, malicious damage and intimidate police.
