Chasing Colts' day one total of 214, Macquarie reached the target in the final over of the day at John McGrath 1 with just one wicket in hand.

Rich Hawker top scored with 53 but a crucial 31 not out from Tyler Cleary and a final-wicket partnership of 21 with Waseem Khan (11 not out) proved the difference.

The day began well for the Blues with Hawker and Brenton Moran (21) scoring 77 for the first wicket before they fell within one run of each other.

Ian Marchant (39) and Brant Mann (35) kept the run chase on target but a middle order collapse of 5-33 suddenly had the Blues in trouble.

Spinner Nathan Jones claimed 3-38 from 16 overs for Colts to keep them in the hunt while Sam Bass and Josh Smith both finished with 2-19.

Cleary played the most vital role of the match and a couple of big shots late on saw his side get home while Khan was a more than useful ally down the other end.

The win ensured Macquarie remain third on the ladder while Colts drift a little further back in fourth.

After day one of their fixture was washed out last week, South Dubbo and Newtown played out a one-day fixture at Lady Cutler 2 on Saturday.

And it was Souths who came out on top in a hard-fought match, keeping hold of top spot in the Pinnington Cup in the process.

Batting first, Souths had Brian McKinnon's unbeaten 67 to thank as he played the anchor role in his side's total of 7-173.

Jeff Shanks (20) was the only other player to stick with McKinnon as the pair added 54 for the fifth wicket.

Brad Fletcher was a standout with the ball for Newtown, taking 3-23 from his eight overs.

Newtown's run chase began poorly, falling to 2-23 but a 95-run partnership between Kel Blackett (56) and Bailey Edmunds (37) got things back on track.

But a collapse of 5-29 gave Souths all the momentum and the Hornets managed to hang on, restricting Newtown to 7-161.

Matt Trumper starred with the ball for Souths, taking 4-19 from eight overs.

Rugby firmed their grip on a top three place on Saturday as they held off CYMS and ensured the Cougars remained winless in 2015-16.

Defending their day one total of 223, Rugby were always in control as they took wickets at regular intervals during the CYMS innings.

The Cougars got close at No.3, finishing at 9-201, largely in part to a final-wicket partnership of 37 between James Nelson (25 not out) and Jackson Peacock (19 not out).

Lachlan Harper was again good for Rugby, with the young spinner taking 4-50 while Garry Goodman had earlier got his side off to a strong start and claimed 3-20 with the new ball.

Dan Duffy was the other CYMS player to stand up on the day, top scoring with 44.
