Australia's greatest love story will be immortalised on the small screen when Ten airs the highly anticipated biopic Mary: The Making of a Princess on Sunday night.

The telemovie will trace the relationship between Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and his Australian-born wife Mary from when "Mary the real estate agent" met "Fred" during the 2000 Olympics in a Sydney pub.

Judging from the promos, the production will boast more cheese than a Domino's pizza, although it will feature a cameo by the real prince.

"When Emma [Hamilton, who plays Princess Mary] was filming some scenes in Copenhagen, there was a scene, that if you look really closely, you'll see Prince Frederik. He drove past in his car while they had the cameras rolling," said Ryan O'Kane, who plays the prince.

One person who won't be playing "spot the prince" is former Vogue Australia editor Kirstie Clements, who landed the world exclusive by interviewing and photographing the newlyweds in 2004.

"I was privy to the reality so I don't need to. It seems it will be a typically dramatic show, which these things need to be, but they are a modern, contemporary couple who were super in love at the time. No one knows how he proposed, she wouldn't tell me, but they are very casual, we ate sandwiches in their kitchen and the Crown Prince showed me his car collection," Clements said.

Mary's best friend Amber Petty will tune in but she is busy putting the finishing touches on her first book, which is due for release next year. Petty, who is also a senior publicist for media agency OMD, confirmed to Fairfax Media the literary work is not about her royal connections but she does expect it to be "a best seller in Russia".

Sharon-Lee Clarke, the eyebrow artist who used to count Mary Donaldson as a client in her Woollahra salon, is looking forward to taking a trip down memory lane with the show.

"She looks a lot different now but she was really pleasant, never demanding. I worked with her right up until she left to move overseas. Most brides I meet are nervous, she wasn't, she was so in love and ready for her next exciting chapter."
