Well, at least it was until Holly Holm delivered another one a few hours later.
Dubbo-born fighter Kyle Noke's stunning snap kick to the body of Peter Sobotta was the catalyst behind a TKO first round win at UFC 193 in Melbourne today, further enhancing the 35-year-old as one of the premier welterweights in the promotion.
Noke stopped Sobotta, who entered the bout on a seven-fight winning streak, just 2:01 into the first round, with the rib-breaking kick setting him up to attack the Polish-born German on the ground.
With Sobotta gasping for air and in obvious distress Noke zeroed in on his opponent, leaving referee Steve Perceval with little option but to stop the fight.
An elated Noke, who once again had Men At Work's 'Land Down Under' as his entrance song, admitted afterwards that the victory, which took his professional record to 22-7-1 (6-3-0 in the UFC), was a pleasing result as it had come together through a pinpoint training camp.
"It played out just like we thought it would," he said.
"We worked that game plan every day for the last eight weeks. It was exactly as coach Winkeljohn said it would go.
"I just went in there and did what he told me to do. It feels unreal.
"I was dying to get on this card, to go out there and put on a performance like that is amazing for me. It's a dream come true."
While Noke basked in the glory of the win, Sobotta was gracious in defeat.
"He caught me with a good kick," Sobotta said,
"When he was punching, I wasn't out. It's not that I couldn't defend myself, I just couldn't breathe."
Noke has now won three of his past four fights since dropping back to the welterweight division, and even prior to the fight he was getting praise from UFC legends Frank Mir and 'Sugar' Rashad Evans.
With two fights under his belt in a calendar year for the first time since 2012 and his well-documented injury concerns now a thing of the past, Noke is every chance to progressing up the rankings and inching closer to a fight against the likes of top-15 ranked opponents Jake Ellenberger, Thiago Alves, Gunnar Nelson and Carlos Condit.
UFC 193 was a record-breaking event with a crowd of more than 60,000 packing Etihad Stadium, setting an attendance record for the promotion.
