Former president and life member of the Parkes Harness Racing Club Gardiner was 78 and had been battling illness for several months.
Nothing short of a local legend in the Parkes racing game, Gardiner was the longest serving president of the Parkes club, completing 10 years as president from 1999 to 2009 after joining the committee in 1979.
He was at the helm during two of the most special times for the club, January 2003 when they celebrated 50 years of night trotting and then 100 years of the club's existence in May 2009.
Gardiner also spent time as the track curator while he was a winner of the Harness Racing New South Wales Volunteer of the Year.
Cliff is survived by his wife Gwen and children David (Brisbane), Debbie and Kim O'Keefe (Parkes), Faren (Brisbane), and Bev and Dennis Young (Parkes).
Funeral arrangements are yet to be set at this time.
