DUBBO’s Colin Honeysett was “shocked but honoured” to be added to the Jean Emile Serisier Roll of Honour at Friday night’s Rhino Awards.
The award recognises those who demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, strategic business direction and innovative ideas, whilst providing inspiration to a new generation of upcoming business leaders.
Dubbo born and bred Mr Honeysett began his plumbing apprenticeship in 1966 and started his own business in 1972.
At one stage he employed 11 people, and over the years had overseen 21 apprentices who he was proud to say went on to be licensed plumbers and work for themselves.
Mr Honeysett said “honesty, quality workmanship and work done at a reasonable price” was fundamental to the way he operated.
A keen supporter of local charities, Mr Honeysett said he had made it a priority to help out others who had hit hard times.
Now aged 65, Mr Honeysett said he said he did not like to “loiter”, still enjoyed work and kept his hand in the plumbing business.
Since 1976, Mr Honeysett had been involved in property development and currently had seven commercial buildings in the Dubbo CBD.
He made a point of surrounding himself with and taking advice from “good people, knowledgeable architects and real estate agents, for instance”, he said, along with a supportive family.
Mr Honeysett said he would not hesitate to recommend a trade career such as plumbing to youngsters today.
