NEAR RECORD numbers at Dubbo Cycle Club's second week of Tuesday night track racing saw nearly 60 riders across all senior and junior divisions showing their talents to the club handicappers ahead of next week's first competition races.
A small but select group in A-grade ensured some fast and tactical racing in the club's top-tier division as Luke Ensor won both scratch events.
Tim Hines and Kurt Eather won the two-lap and four-lap handicaps respectively, while old heads Vaughn Eather, Mick Ticehurst and David Gerrish made sure talented youngsters Eather and Ensor did not run the races to their liking.
The four B-grade events were again even races as Dave Clark won both handicap events, and Dylan Eather and Sam Fitzgerald crossed the line first in the two scratch races.
Alex Russell again filled a number of minor placings along with Matt Fuller and Gary Barber.
Chris Brook was the victor in both the C-grade scratch races, with Chris Turtle winning the two-lap handicap and Catherine Fuller winning the four-lap handicap, while Haylee Fuller, Jason Farr, Jacob Smyth, Heather Ticehurst and Mudgee's Lachlan Burke claimed podium placings over the four events.
Mitchell Hines was made to step-up from junior division one to D-grade and the youngster was impressive in taking out the evening's two handicap events, while fellow young rider Lachlan Clark won the two scratch races, leaving Michelle Fuller, Lauren Fuller, Garry Hodgess and Sarah Granger to battle out the minor placings.
Brodie Wheeler will likely fetch the ire of the handicapper after taking out all four junior division one events.
Cousins Zac Fuller and Imogen and Makalyla Fuller made sure Wheeler had to work for his victories, finishing on the podium in the four events, while Isabelle Russell also registered a podium finish in the two-lap handicap.
Tyrone Smyth, Trent Hines, Tom Russell and Tyler Barnes shared the spoils in the junior division two races, ahead of Will and Chris Gilbert and Rocco Wrigley.
The junior development division was evenly contested by Georgia Farr, Angus Campbell, Emily Hines, Lachlan Farr, Jessica Fuller and Sophie Simpson showing off their improving skills.
The tiny tots and super tots divisions were again well supported, with Aikie Wrigley, Jordi Low, Quaid Adam and Charlie Webb riding impressively in the tiny tots division, while Jarryd Fuller, Ellie Reynen, Alexis Smyth, Taiden Adams, Cooper Farr and Cody Low made for some entertaining racing in the super tots division.
Next Tuesday's racing sees the start of the season's competition events, which will include the first week of senior feature races and the kid's trophy events.

Darrell Wheeler returned home from Manchester earlier this week after a successful World Masters Track Championships campaign, winning a silver medal in the scratch race and a bronze medal in both the points race and the individual pursuit.
The Dubbo cycling icon's bid for a second individual pursuit world title took a hit in the days leading up to the event when he fell ill.
Wheeler did, however win the bronze medal event comprehensively over Frenchman Michel Briat.
