According to Janssen Australia, many people with psoriasis suffer in silence, even though appropriate education and treatment is available that may help to alleviate the signs and symptoms of the often debilitating disease. Get Psorted allows them to discuss their psoriasis with a registered nurse over the phone.
Associate Professor Kurt Gebauer, Chair of the Get Psorted Program's Steering Committee said, "Get Psorted is a great initiative to encourage patients affected by psoriasis to seek help about their condition. This includes access to educational resources and getting assessed by a registered nurse who can provide a referral note to a GP for further management, where required."
More than 2 per cent of Australians are affected by the skin condition psoriasis, a chronic red, and scaly skin rash that may be itchy and painful and may cause people to feel unattractive, depressed and embarrassed about showing their skin to others.
Recent research revealed that up to 52 per cent of patients with psoriasis were dissatisfied with their treatment. Another survey showed that almost 40 per cent of patients remained untreated.
The Get Psorted program will be available to people in Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst and surrounding areas from September to the end of November 2015.
People affected by psoriasis living in this region are encouraged to dial 1800 093 695 to speak to the Get Psorted nurse about psoriasis and treatments available.
