Now in its 10th year, the expo on Saturday will see numerous local, state and federal organisations come together at the Western Plains Cultural Centre to show community members how to live and work more sustainably.

"There will be over 30 exhibitor displays, including a range of sustainable living exhibits, with tips on how to reduce household energy and water bills, create less waste, and live in harmony with the environment," Dubbo City Council sustainability co-ordinator Catriona Jennings said.

The expo will also feature "hands-on science exhibits to inspire and engage the local community about the wonders of science", including plenty of activities and competitions for the kids, Ms Jennings said.

Last year's event drew more than 900 residents to the Dubbo Regional Botanical Garden, but this year organisers were expecting a much bigger turnout after joining forces with the Australian Museum Science Festival.

The Dubbo Field Nats will have a stall, and committee member Tim Hosking believes Saturday will be a great day out for families and anyone interested in sustainability.

"People can wonder in throughout the day," Mr Hosking said.

"It's squarely aimed at being a great day out for families and also people who are interested in sustainable initiatives, whether it be solar power or electric vehicle or different kinds of environmental education perspectives.

"The [Taronga Western Plains] zoo is always really good with the kids, and some of the interactive activities that Wambangalang Environmental Education hold are always good, like the solar oven and the bike blender."

The annual event is also an important opportunity for the region's different environmental and sustainable organisations to network, Mr Hosking said.
