At a glittering event in Sydney, Stephen Orth accepted a trophy from the Master Builders' Association of NSW in the 2012 Excellence in Housing Awards.
The spectacular home, just outside Yeoval, was designed by Dubbo-based Gavin Dale of Gavin Dale Design and built by Stephen Orth, and named joint winner in the contract homes $800,000 to $1 million category.
The four-bedroom home was finished in 2010 and met the brief of the owners to capture the views over the valley, without disturbing the ridge top. Perched high on the ridge, the home has views as far as Mount Canobolas and captures the owner's passion for quality timber work.
Steve Orth said it was an honour for a building firm from regional NSW to take out the prestigious award.
"We are very excited to be recognised ahead of so many quality builders from Sydney and spectacular homes perched along the NSW coastline," he said.
"This win goes to prove that regional NSW can offer quality products and that people in country areas also appreciate the value of taking the time to carefully plan their dream home.
"We know people in the Dubbo area are choosing to build quality family homes that are architecturally designed to meet their own specifications and it is great to see them recognised.
"There is currently a strong focus on original, quality designs and home owners are looking for more sustainable and energy-efficient housing alternatives that are functional and focus on the future," Mr Orth said.
The home features spotted gum floors and decking throughout, as well as recycled timber beams and feature walls. It has a screened-in entertaining area alongside the pool with superbly polished concrete floors leading into a sleek black kitchen, complete with granite bench tops.
