The society’s publicity officer Peter Young said while it was a popular movie, it was also a move by the not-for-profit group to branch out in what they offered cinema patrons.
“We try to cater for the arthouse market, we don’t really screen mainstream movies,” Mr Young said.
“And the cinema has been very good to us, they’ve really supported our monthly movie screenings.”
The Orange Film Society will screen Ghostbusters on Friday, October 9 from 7pm at Odeon 5 cinemas.
“With the 30th anniversary, the film has been completely remastered, this is a great chance to see the film,” Mr Young said.
The supernatural comedy film, directed and produced by Ivan Reitman, was released in 1984.
It stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis as three eccentric parapsychologists in New York City who start a ghost-catching business. Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis co-star as a client and her neighbour.
“It’s a unique thing that in the same year as Ghostbusters came out the society was formed too,” Mr Young said.
Tickets are available at Inkability, in William Street, or at the door, costing $15 for adults and $10 for concessions.
There will be lucky door and costume prizes for the best dressed, both being Ghostbusters merchandise.
