Game of Thrones fans need not despair when the HBO fantasy series reaches its natural conclusion in a few years' time because there's a rumoured movie in the works.
According to a new report by Daily Star Sunday, creator George R.R. Martin was at an Emmy Awards afterparty last week when he spilled the beans about a blockbuster Game of Thrones movie.
Martin is frantically trying to finish the last two books in the fantasy series, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, with the HBO show recently overtaking his novels.
"There will be a movie but I will not be involved," the novelist reportedly said after his series picked up a record-breaking 12 Emmys.
"I have too much to do. That is something HBO and [writers] DB and David are dealing with.
"I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do.
"The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don't write faster."
According to the report, a Game of Thrones movie would go back in time and focus on certain periods during the series, which could see much-loved killed-off characters like Ned Stark resurrected.
The show - which is currently filming its sixth season - also appears to be nearing its conclusion.
Speaking at the same Emmys afterparty, Game of Thrones writer David Benioff indicated there wouldn't be many seasons left.
When asked if the show would make it to ten seasons, Benioff said: "no way in hell because we know what the end is and we're rapidly approaching it".
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has also flagged the end, saying at the Television Critics Association he was "feeling two more years after [season] six".
Season six is set to air sometime in 2016.
