After enduring a drama filled year with ongoing reports of violence and attendance issues, the Department of Education have announced Karen McKinnon as the new executive principal and Annette Thomson as the principal for teaching and learning.

Both will commence their roles on day one term four, and Mr Lane is adamant it's more important they initially spend more time in the community than the classroom.

"They need to work and liaise with the community, that is where it starts," he said.

"They need to get into people's homes, meet the parents and the school kids and if they can build that connection, we will see big improvements.

"Hopefully by having a clearer management structure we can see some big improvements in the coming weeks, months and years."

Mr Lane said it's important the whole community gets behind the school and the new principals to ensure positive outcomes are achieved.

"It's a whole community thing and all areas need to work together for a common interest," he said.

"We need to keep that desire to change and improve over a long period of time, not just when its a popular thing in the media.

"This isn't something that will happen overnight so we need to keep at it and I'm sure we will."

Mr Lane believes the behaviour of students has already improved considerably since the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) was established on the school grounds in the middle of the year.

"The unruly behaviour has been lowered with the PCYC there," he said.

"The kids are relating really well to the programs they are running.

"The Department of Education have put a strong focus on it and having their representatives out here once a fortnight has been great."
