Police closed in on the man on Saturday night near Dubbo after receiving information about a vehicle travelling from another region. Police regard the arrest as “significant” as they continue efforts to combat supply.
On Saturday Dubbo police received information a car travelling to the city from the Illawarra region could contain a person in possession of a large amount of prohibited drugs, Inspector Dan Skelly from Orana Local Area Command said.
About 9.20pm on Saturday officers spotted the vehicle in an area about 15kms west of Dubbo.
At the time the occupants of the vehicle were spoken to and as a result the man was searched and allegedly found to be in possession of a large amount of methylamphetamine, Inspector Skelly said.
Methylamphetamine is the drug commonly known as ice.
Inspector Skelly said the quantity of the drugs had an estimated street value of $7500.
The man was then arrested and taken to Dubbo police station where he was charged with the supply and possession of the prohibited drug and refused bail.
The accused appeared before Dubbo Local Court on Sunday and was granted bail.
He is to reappear before Dubbo Local Court at a future date.
“The arrest of this male is significant and enabled police to remove a large amount of drugs from circulation that was destined for supply to local addicts in the Dubbo area,” Inspector Skelly said.
“The NSW Police Force remains steadfast in their endeavours to detect persons dealing in prohibited drugs and ensure the full force of the law is brought down upon them.”
