The first two days of action were dominated by the Golden West Holden Championship, played across 36 holes of stableford in grades for men and ladies.
Tournament director and president of the Dubbo Golf Club veterans association John Dixon said the standard of the competition had been excellent so far.
"We've got a very big field of A-grade players with many of them off single figures, which is pretty good given the average age of the players would be over 65 and maybe even closer to 70," Dixon said.
"There's about 40 players in A-grade, that's for the men's obviously and there'd be less in the women's. So there's some pretty handy golfers here. We've had excellent weather too, which is always a bonus."
About 190 players - 165 men and 25 women - representing 53 clubs flocked from as far afield as southern Queensland and the Victorian border for the event.
Now in its 13th year, the week of golf is a major destination for veteran players, and Dixon said it was getting bigger each year.
"It's grown exponentially [in the past] 10 years or so. We had very small fields of 60 to 70 in my early days and it has grown to almost the 200 mark in the past few years. It's really a testament to the quality of the course here," Dixon said.
"We do have a lot of regulars who have been here over the last five or 10 years, but we also have a lot of new faces here this week which is great to see. It's a really big financial boost to the city because you've got these people that are here for the week and they are buying food and paying for fuel and accommodation. So it's a big spin off in terms of dollars for the city."
Golfers have a break in play on Wednesday, while the NSW Veterans Golf Association hold a general meeting of its 12-person board.
Play will resume on?Thursday with a stableford for NSW Veterans Golf Association trophies, as well as a NSW Veterans Golf Medal event restricted to the 14 winners of tournaments played during the year.
A presentation dinner will take place on Thursday night and Friday will see about 130 players take to the course for a 4BBB medley shotgun.
