Kalimba Light carried a record of five wins and 13 minor placings from 37 starts into Monday night's 318m event but had not won at the Dawson Park circuit from four previous goes.
That all changed in a tick past 18 seconds when, from box five, he was able to show good early speed and push forward.
Cosmic Carla ($32.20) was best out of the boxes but Kalimba Light ($4.20) was able to hunt up inside her and find the front shortly after the start, and in the end he made light work of his rivals as he cleared out to win by seven lengths in a time of 18.35s.
Major Grant ($2.40 fav) finished second, while Bromac Boy ($7.70) was a nose away in third place.
Kalimba Light's time was 0.08s faster than that of Super Boot, which ran 18.43s as it justified its short quote to win the first heat of the series.
The Paul Britt-trained chaser was a raging $1.60 favourite and led from the start to win his heat by one-and-three-quarter lengths in a time of 18.43s.
Kalimba Light's kennel-mate Betown Melody ($12.80) was second, with Dad's Man ($6.20) rounding out the placings.
Super Boot now has an enviable record of five wins and six minor placings from 15 starts.
The third heat of the night was also the final race on the program and it saw Ultimate Best run 18.49s in an all-the-way victory.
From box seven Ultimate Best ($9.90) was best away and found the front quickly, and in the run to the line the Tomingley-trained dog managed to hold out Deb's Dream ($5.00) by three-quarters-of-a-length.
The Carl Moss-trained Backyard Wrecker ($11.10) was third while $1.80 favourite Bundarra Magic, from the Paul Braddon kennels, finished in fourth place.
The final of the series, as well as the Buck Fever @ Stud Series over the 516m journey, will be run at the club's next meeting on Thursday, September 10.
