Officers tried to pull the 22-year-old driver's vehicle over for a random breath test on Bourke Street about 12.10am Saturday but he took off.
The driver reached speeds of up to 70km/h in the 50km/h residential zones as he tried to evade police, according to a spokesperson for Darling River Local Area Command.
It will be alleged he got out of the vehicle and fled on foot after the vehicle entered a reserve and got bogged.
Officers arrested him shortly afterwards.
Police will allege a subsequent breath test came back positive and a breath analysis at Brewarrina Police Station returned a mid-range reading of 0.138.
The man's provisional P2 licence was suspended and he will front court charged with police pursuit - drive manner dangerous and mid-range drink-driving.
