The Wombats travelled to No. 1 Oval and were right in the elimination semi-final contest for the first hour but a number of uncharacteristic errors and some huge hits were the hallmark of the game for much of it.
But the Roos eventually got going and once they did there was no stopping them, running in six tries in a 41-7 win which keeps their season alive and sets up a clash with Bathurst Bulldogs at Ashwood Park next Saturday.
"I think Dubbo can be the dark horse," McDonald said.
"(Orange) City are looking good but Dubbo are the dark horse and it should be a good game whoever is in the grand final."
