Meals on Wheels Dubbo has 130 clients in the city, 10 per cent more than six months ago.
Their meals are delivered by more than 300 volunteers, 80 per cent of them over the age of 65.
National Meals on Wheels Day on Wednesday prompted praise for the valued volunteers and a call for younger people to consider filling their shoes.
"We need younger volunteers to come in and help so that when older volunteers are too elderly or want to retire from volunteering for whatever reason we have new people coming through," said Meals on Wheels Dubbo service manager Peter English.
He was speaking at Lourdes Hospital where the meals have been cooked for almost a year.
Between 75 and 90 are produced each day of the working week for seven "runs" within the city, each taking at least an hour-and-a-half to complete.
Across a week 78 volunteers or what Mr English calls "a small army" get the meals to frail, aged and disabled residents wanting to stay in their homes.
Easing the load is 28 corporate sponsors who regularly allocate staff time and vehicles to deliveries.
They include banks, real estate agents and the employers and supporters of disabled people.
"Without the corporate support the job of the individual volunteers would be a lot harder," Mr English said.
Currently Meals on Wheels Dubbo is negotiating with the federal Department of Social Services for another three-year contract.
Government dollars cover administration expenses while the $8.65 cost of a meal is covered by clients and directed back to Lourdes Hospital and its owner, Catholic Healthcare.
Recently Meals on Wheels Dubbo announced its expansion into Narromine and Trangie.
Mr English said the service offered by Meals on Wheels to people aged over 65 and Aboriginal people aged over 50 was "fundamental" to their well-being and independence.
