Across three-and-a-half months the coveted trophy is being shown to communities in Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia ahead of the 2015 Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Victoria Racing Club (VRC) chief executive Simon Love said the Gilgandra stop was the cup's first visit to regional NSW on the 2015 tour.
On Friday the cup will be transported to schools, including St Joseph's, Gilgandra Public and Gilgandra High, before being put on display at Gilgandra Services Club.
A reception will be held on Friday night at the Gilgandra Racecourse.
On Saturday Cooee Lodge Retirement Village residents will admire the cup that will be on show later in the day at Gilgandra Racecourse and Gilgandra Sporties.
Melbourne Cup winning jockey John Marshall, who rode Rogan Josh to victory in 1999, will be in Gilgandra to share his tales of triumph.
Gilgandra Jockey Club president Andrew Schier said the town was eager to host the cup.
"We're delighted that this year's Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour is visiting Gilgandra," he said.
"There's a lot of excitement in the community around the arrival of the cup."
Mr Love said the VRC was pleased to be able to take the Emirates Melbourne Cup to the people of Central West NSW.
"It's always a honour to visit other race clubs around Australia with our famous trophy, and we look forward to the opportunity to share it with the Gilgandra community," he said.
Gilgandra residents who post images of them with the cup on social media, using the tag #EmiratesMelbourneCup and #PeoplesCup, have a chance of winning a trip for two to Melbourne for the running of the 2015 Emirates Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November.
