1. Portsea palace 'Ilyuka'
Our top sale stands significantly shy of Packer's boon and was set in 2010 when BRW rich-lister John Higgins scooped up the grand Portsea cliff-top estate Ilyuka for $26 million.
2. Australia 108's prestige penthouse
But Melbourne is on par with the country's most expensive apartment sale, with the penthouse of the city's tallest skyscraper, Australia 108, selling for $25 million in April this year.
3. Baillieu family home
This sale leapfrogged the previous metropolitan Melbourne residential record set by soft-drink magnate Harry Stamoulis, who paid $24 million in 2010 for the former Baillieu family home in St Georges Road, Toorak.
The house has since been knocked down to pave way for a mega mansion that is rumoured to have cost up to $70 million.
4.Skater's mansion
Former champion skateboarder and founder of skate brand Globe International Peter Hill enjoyed a $22 million pay day with his wife Angela when they sold their Hawthorn home at 21 Coppin Grove in 2013.
5. Toorak tudor
After more than a year on the market, the Smorgon family's Toorak mansion at 750 Orrong Road also found a buyer with $20 million in 2014.
