The Cowboys made light work of their road trip to Cobar, beating the Roosters 62-22 to move to 23 points, one clear of fourth-placed Forbes who ground out a 32-20 win over Macquarie.
Captain Justin Toomey-White crossed for three of his side's 12 tries, while Kotoni Staggs, Richard Peckham and Will Lousick each bagged doubles.
Wellington will now face a final round clash against Dubbo Westside at Kennard Park, and while the Rabbitohs can not finish any higher than fifth, the Cowboys will have plenty to play for.
A win guarantees them third place, while a loss will leave them sweating on the result of the southern derby between Parkes and Forbes at Jock Colley Field.
Meanwhile, Parkes remain in the hunt for top spot on the ladder courtesy of their 40-20 win over Narromine at Cale Oval on Saturday.
Wearing special charity jerseys, the Jets put up a good fight against their highly-touted opposition, who will finish in the top two but could potentially snatch the minor premiership next weekend.
The Spacemen sit two points behind current leaders CYMS, and will be hoping they can not only beat Forbes but that the Fishies fall to Nyngan in order to jump them and get the first week of the finals off.
