While some people are quick to point the finger of blame orhave a shot at Dubbo, this report needs to be put into context.
Dubbo is likely to have some of the highest instances of animals on its roads in NSW, therefore there will be more collisions with animals.
Take kangaroos for example. It is estimated in the Coonabarabran zone, which Dubbo falls in,there are more kangaroos than any other zone.
The number of kangaroos in the Coonabarabran zone has grown every year for the past eight years and with so much feed currently around, we can expect strong numbers again this year.
What needs to be of high importance is ensuring regional and rural roads are as safe as possible to decrease the chances of serious and fatal car accidents.
Eliminating black spots, increasing sealed roads and continually improving roads in general needs to be a priority for the federal, state and local government.
Regional areas like Dubbo and Western NSW can often be forgotten when it comes to funding for an upgrade or new development of our roads, which can lead to more unwanted statistics around car crashes and fatalities.
When it comes to road crashes or collisions, no city or town wants to top a report, so it is important drivers are as safe as possible and adequate funding is in place to ensure road conditions are up to scratch.
