Seven's new show Restaurant Revolution looks destined to become a ratings dud, with the prime time show pulling only 10,000 more viewers than a daytime screening of The Bold and The Beautiful.

The cooking show launched among a dozen other new programs this week, and is up against popular shows such as The Bachelor in the competitive 7.30pm timeslot.

Just 415,000 people tuned in to Restaurant Revolution in the capital cities on Thursday - beaten by shows like Grant Denyer's Family Feud and Gem's lunchtime The Cricket Show.

Channel Nine have pitted their new cooking show The Hotplate against Restaurant Revolution in the same evening timeslot, but appear to be winning the ratings battle already.

The Hotplate was watched by 656,000 people on Thursday, a quarter of a million more people than Restaurant Revolution.

Part of the show's major appeal is having food critic Tom Parker Bowles, the son of the Duchess of Cornwall, as a judge.

The numbers are sure to be a blow to Seven who are also responsible for My Kitchen Rules, a huge rating success which averaged around 1.4 million viewers a night when it was on air earlier this year.

Ten's MasterChef also pulled around one million viewers each night.

Restaurant Revolution is a new format in Australia, and is a mixture of MKR, Shark Tank and The Block. Contestants in each capital city are tasked with designing and running their own pop-up restaurants, and are judged on their profit margins, food and service.

Nine's The Hotplate is also a new format, but is almost identical to Seven's MKR. Each week, established restaurateurs (instead of amateurs) eat and score food cooked up by their competitors.

Meanwhile on Ten, the second episode of The Bachelor was watched by 739,000 people in the capital cities, only narrowly beating perennial Australian soap Home and Away, which was viewed by 720,000.
