Funding announced in Dubbo earlier this week will see that support is around for those who need it.
The state government announced a plan worth $4 million over four years to see ice addicts treated in their hometowns rather than sending them away to a rehab facility.
While there was no announcement about a rehab facility in Dubbo yet, the funding will see organisations currently assisting these people to provide further services to help them recover from their addiction.
Promisingly, a future rehab facility wasn't ruled out.
With planned programs to start next year it is great to see the government is acting when people say they want treatment facilities in their home town.
However, we are curious to see just how far the $1 million each year goes to setting up and establishing these programs.
When the announcement was made, it was made clear that this was just part of a whole-government process to tackle not only use of ice but also manufacture and supply as well.
Member for Dubbo Troy Grant spoke about the health-specific response, while also talking about 'scoping out' the idea of a drug court here in Dubbo.
While it is great to see the government get started on the plan, we are also hoping to see an announcement about a proper rehabilitation facility here in Dubbo in the near future.
