The Fishies scored six tries to four as they overcame a shaky first half to keep their rivals scoreless in the second stanza, in the process jumping two points clear at the top of the Group 11 ladder with three rounds remaining.
Parkes remain in second place - three points clear of third-placed Forbes, however the result disappointed captain-coach Dennis Moran, who refused to speak after the match.
The mood was the opposite over in the CYMS rooms, but coach Tim Ryan could still find room for improvement.
"Our first half was pretty sketchy, the boys weren't switched on for some reason but the second half was completely the opposite," he said.
"After losing last week we wanted to get back to winning and we did that, so we'll take it and move forward."
The Spacemen were missing hooker Tino Ionatana and Dave Masoe due to representative commitments, but they got the jump on the defending premiers when Sam Dwyer crossed in just the sixth minute of play.
CYMS hit back shortly after when Colby Pellow scored a quickfire double to put the hosts in front, however their advantage did not last long.
Just as CYMS looked to be getting on top Parkes hit back through centre Michael Mitchell to make the score 12-8.
Shortly after Alex Bonham, who had dropped the ball over the line previously, burrowed over from dummy-half to give the Fishies a 14-12 lead before tries to Brandon Paige (36th minute) and James Clyburn (38th) ensured Parkes would take a 20-14 lead into the break.
The early exchanges in the second half were soured when CYMS prop Ben Marlin had to be taken from the field by ambulance after suffering a concussion while trying to tackle Parkes big man Brandon Tago.
After a lengthy delay it was Marlin's teammates who rebounded best, with a Kieran Shipp try levelling the scores before a Pellow penalty in the 52nd minute gave the Fishies a lead they would not relinquish.
After Parkes were denied a try in the 62nd minute, which sparked a minor scuffle between the sides, Alex Ronayne and Ilisoni Vonomateiratu rounded out the scoring for CYMS, who finished with 12 men when Jyie Chapman was sin-binned in the final minute for a deliberate professional foul.
"We played more of our style of football in the second half," Ryan said. "Our completion rate was much higher, we didn't give them as much field position or as many chances, and as a result we didn't let any points in.
"I thought the boys bounced back well after 'Marlo' got taken from the field and I thought Parkes and their trainers handled it well too and gave our trainers a lot of assistance, so I thanked them for that.
"It would have been easy for our boys to drop the bundle a bit after seeing their mate taken off like that but they stuck strong and I was proud of them.
