COMPLETED sections of Australia's National Broadband Network (NBN) fixed-wireless technology are delivering download and upload speeds, data allowances and value for money to rival the best in the world, according to a new report from technology research company Ovum.
Released earlier this month, the report compares the highest performing fixed wireless NBN packages on the market with the highest performing services available in countries such as the USA, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Czech Republic, Japan and Taiwan.
The NBN topped the list for monthly data allowances (before limits applied), with Telstra retailing packages of 500GB, compared with 70GB through the Philippines' PLDT and 60GB from Ireland's 3.
When it came to download and upload speeds, NBN's currently available 25Mbps download speed came in at sixth out of 15 comparable packages. NBN had the fourth-best upload speeds at 5Mbps, out of eight comparable packages.
The research also indicated NBN's faster download/upload speeds of up to 50/20Mbps would be the fastest available (of those surveyed) when it becomes commercially available later this year.
