John Riley and James Gibson got their hands on a 1993 Ford Falcon ute at a discounted rate from a sponsor and substantially rebuilt it to get it ready for the rigours of the 4800 kilometre trip round Queensland.
The rebuild was done at weekends and after work over a six-month period.
After a maiden run in 2014, they have made further changes, especially to the suspension, to prepare for this year's edition.
The Great Endeavour Rally is all about 'raising dust and dollars', and this year will see drivers depart from Redcliffe in Queensland for Rockhampton, with a detour to the Whitsundays thrown in for good measure.
While the rally distance is 4800kms, Mr Riley and Gibson need to travel to and from the event and estimate they will cover a total of 7000kms.
The rally, now in its 28th year, aims to raise around $300,000, and the Dubbo pair are eager to do their bit.
"It's great to be getting some awareness and hopefully as much money is raised as possible," he said.
"For us, its a combination of a great cause and a lot of fun so we really enjoy it.
"This will be our second year and we'd encourage everyone to look at getting involved in future years.
"People always say next year or I wish I did that, well you can, you've just got to make it happen."
Mr Riley and Mr Gibson moved to thank all their sponsors who made it possible for them to take part in the rally.
The Great Endeavour Rally will start on July 17 and finish July 25. For information, visit www.great.endeavour.com.au, and to support Mr Riley and Mr Gibson, search for Minion Racing on www.facebook.com.
