Clisby’s three-year-old jumped well from a wide barrier in the Wellington Motor Inn Class 1 and Maiden Plate (1700m) and led from virtually start to finish.
A clearly delighted Clisby said after the race he almost gave his filly a spell but she rewarded his choice in the best possible way.
Zaveena ($17) was a good win for the punters as she held off pre-race favourite Consented ($4.40), who charged home with Greg Ryan in the saddle.
But jockey Michael Travers guided Zaveena past the post to record an early winning double.
The day at Wellington began with Ryan leading Little Chief to victory in the Lousicks Earthmoving Maiden Handicap (1400m).
The Mick Miladinovic-trained gelding got straight to the front and Ryan got to the inside as they rounded the bend for home.
From there he powered further in front and Little Chief ($3.10 favourite) went on to win by eight lengths from Ready To Provide ($6) and Duke of Beret ($6).
Travers then got on the board when he took out the second of the day, the Kitches Hardware Three Year old Maiden Plate with Elveda Vegas ($7.50).
In a thrilling finish, Travers got the Andrew Molloy-trained filly to come storming home and got past House Of Nicole ($3.50) by just a nose. After settling midfield for the first part of the race, Travers moved Elveda Vegas to the middle of the track down the home straight and charged from fifth place.
Pre-race favourite On The Night Shift ($3.20) had to settle for third for trainer Lee Curtis and Dubbo jockey Kody Nestor.
Another impressive winner at Wellington on Monday was Owhanica, who made it four wins from 23 starts for Hawkesbury trainer Steven Brown.
Following on from two solid fourth-placed finishes at Newcastle and Canberra, Owhanica ($4.80) started as one of the favourites with Mathew Cahill onboard.
Sitting in third as the field rounded the bend in the Bell River Thoroughbreds Benchmark 55 Handicap (1400m), Ryan got the inside run and cruised to the front as they headed down the straight.
Pre-race favourite Raised For Battle ($4.40) attempted to go with the Owhanica but couldn’t muster enough pace and finished second, half a length behind.
