The 2015 NAIDOC Week theme ‘We all stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate’ reflects the two key goals relating to Aboriginal communities for Local Land Services, Local Land Services Aboriginal communities officer Mike Nolan said.
The two goals are supporting Aboriginal people to care for Country and to share traditional land management knowledge and Mr Nolan highlighted a project at Dubbo among others.
“In central west NSW, we support Aboriginal people to care for Country through working together to protect our natural and cultural values,” said Mr Nolan.
“A great example of this (was) where we engaged work for the dole recipients to rehabilitate the Macquarie River on ‘Strathmore’ near Dubbo.
“We have also worked with Aboriginal students through our youth empowerment program to build confidence and understanding of what caring for Country means.”
