Held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on Friday, thirteen of Dubbo’s finest dancing queens and kings took to the stage for a evening of entertainment and laughs.
The dancing stars include Julie Cross, John Korff, Megan Casserly, Peter Brown, Susan Cornish, Tina Reynolds, Tom Cavanagh, Chris Sewell, Juelz Jarry, Josh Large, Bart Shanks, Laagan Whalan and Heidi Nichols.
Committee member Jason Dearmer said the local dancers were teamed with a professional from Stepping Out Dance Factory, The Shimmering Gems Belly Dancing Troupe, Zumba with Tracy, Fantasy Dubbo Dancesport and Orana Dance Centre to learn the tricks of the trade.
Mr Dearmer said each dancer was given the target to raise $2500 to be donated directly to Cancer Council NSW.
“There was no set target on how much money we would raise, but it certainly smashed expectations,” he said.
The dancers were judged by mayor Mathew Dickerson, Justine Blacklock and Peter Scott.
The three main prizes went to highest fundraiser, Heidi Nichols, judge’s choice, Tom Cavanagh and people’s choice, Josh Large.
Mr Dearmer said other highlights of the evening involved Peter Brown’s muscles and John Korff’s take on Sia’s hit Chandelier.
“John went all out with the blonde wig and revealing leotard, which was a sight that just can’t be unseen,” he said.
Teacher, Tracy Hanna said she was so proud to have been involved in the event with her celebrity, Julie Cross.
“I’m so proud with what everyone has achieved,” she said.
“Working with Julie was amazing, I’m so happy with how far she came with the Zumba routine.”
