DUBBO Blue Jays coach Craig Johnston has called on his team to lift and deliver a five-star performance in Saturday's clash with Orange Ex-Services, with a win potentially entrenching them inside the top five.
With only five rounds of competition remaining, including today, the Blue Jays are fifth on points differential, slightly behind Ex-Services who sit in fourth, giving extra weight to Saturday's game.
With the stakes so high, Johnson is well aware of the importance of the clash.
"This is a very important game as both teams are on the same points, so the chance to push ahead of them is a massive incentive for us," he said.
"It could really open the table up for us and give us a bit of a buffer from some of the teams below us.
"Following Saturday's game, we have a bye and three more games at home so its a big boost for us to have all these games at home."
Leading into Saturday's game, the Blue Jays have had an interrupted preparation, mainly due to school holidays.
Despite this, Johnson is very confident the players can still get the job done.
"We didn't have a session Monday and Thursday we just did fitness," he said.
"But all the players should be nice and fresh and raring to come Saturday."
Following a five goal win last Saturday over Bathurst St Pat's, Johnson wants more of the same from his players.
"Our short passing game has been great and we need to continue with that again," he said.
"We need a more consistent performance and can't have any extended periods where we are off our game.
"We need to play at a good level, and have occasional spurts where we are on a roll and that's when we can hopefully convert opportunities into goals."
The Blue Jays take on Ex-Services at Pioneer Park at 2pm on Saturday.
