Rain and poor weather made the Coonamble Jockey Club track unsuitable for any racing and the meeting was moved to Dubbo instead.
While it was still a blow for the Coonamble racing fraternity, Dubbo Turf Club general manager Vince Gordon said it wasn't just a case of Dubbo wanting to bring in money after missing out on a number of their own meetings lately.
"It was their Ladies' Day and Saddle Up Sunday meeting, which Racing NSW had invested in, and we had access to host their luncheon but instead of just taking the spoils of getting to host the meeting we were able to make a donation from that and also from the sale of all the racebooks," Gordon said.
"All their patrons were invited but it was also more about the local racing fraternity.
"For the local trainers and jockeys and letting the horses have a run and get some continuity give people invested in the industry a chance to be there.
"The meeting was a good one for the racing community, we've lost a few meetings through rain, which has been great for the local area, but it was a testament to our track staff that we couldn't host one on Thursday but could on Sunday with 24 hours notice. It was well done by the committee."
Gordon said he expected more than $500 to be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and even more raised when the turf club holds a long lunch for the charity in October.
But before that the local club will be hoping for a bit more luck on the track with the next meeting being the Silver Goblet on July 21.
One of the premier races of the year at Dubbo, Gordon and his committee will be keen to see that go ahead after the recent poor weather caused havoc.
