Butcherine, voted best on ground by the women’s Premier League Hockey umpires, scored a crucial goal in the win, but it was her presence and speed when the blue and golds attacked which proved the difference in the clash.
Played in Lithgow, the blue and golds were forced to come from behind to claim victory, after goals to Lithgow’s Keely Hunter and Jess Harris had the hosts leading 2-1 at the break.
But, on top of Butcherine’s goal, Jade Williams and Ellen Van Hoek also found the back of the net for Ex-Services to ensure victory and maintain fourth spot, and keep in touch with the top three.
“It was a very scrappy game, and we made some bad decisions in it too,” Ex-Services gun Mel Hope said.
“We scrambled well though, our field play was generally pretty good too. I think we’re just happy to get the win there.
“Kate, Erin Horan and Ebony Press were probably our best. Ellen, Madie (Smith) and Leanne (Kennewell) all worked well in the middle too.”
ORANGE EX-SERVICES 3 (Kate Butcherine, Jade Williams, Ellen Van Hoek) def LITHGOW ZIG ZAG 2 (Keely Hunter, Jess Harris).
