The Rabbitohs are back at No. 1 Oval tomorrow and play host to the Parkes Spacemen, the undefeated leaders of Group 11.
CYMS cruised past Westside last week on their way to winning 62-12 and with the race for a top five spot heating up, Konz said his team are determined to improve.
“We’re looking forward to it, it was embarrassing what happened (against CYMS) and I wanted to apologise to the fans after that,” he said.
“As captain of this team it’s great honour and we’re encouraging all the fans to get out again so we can repay their faith.”
Despite being at home the Rabbitohs will start as underdogs against a Spacemen team which last week defeated Wellington 48-22.
The likes of Brendan Tago, Tino Ionatana, Sam Dwyer and Alex Prout have all be standouts for Parkes this season but captain-coach Dennis Moran is the one who has orchestrated their undefeated campaign.
He will again be the biggest threat tomorrow and Konz had nothing but praise for the former Parramatta Eel.
“Dennis is just a freak of nature, he’s a gentlemen and it’s a bit of a privilege to play against him,” he said.
“He beat us on his on a bit last time, he put on three or four tries even though we knew we had to shut him down.”
Konz admitted he would be looking to his own instrumental five-eighth, Josh Merritt, to lead the way for his side.
Merritt had been a huge hit with the Rabbitohs since making the move from Macquarie last season.
“Josh looks up to Dennis a lot and sees him as a bit of a role-model so I’ll be looking for Josh to stand up and take on Dennis, who’s the best player in Group 11 at the moment.”
Westside received a boost in the lead up to the clash with Rowan Orcher making the move from Macquarie during the week.
Orcher has been a regular in the Raiders backline this season but Konz said he trained with the Rabbitohs during the week and the paperwork seems to have been completed in time for Orcher to debut for his new side tomorrow.
Konz said Orcher’s signing will help the club further as they chase a top five spot.
Currently sitting in sixth, the skipper said his side is determined to get the win but also admitted a loss does not signal the end of their season.
“It’s not going to be an ideal result if we were to lose but it’s also not time to hit the panic button,” he said.
“We’ve got Cobar and then the bye and Macquarie, Nyngan, Narromine and Wellington and we drew some of those games and were unlucky not to win.
“But we know we can match Parkes and beat them.”
Group 11 action kicks off at No. 1 Oval today with the League Tag at 11am, followed by the under-18s, reserve grade and first grade matches.
