Did you know that heart disease is the single biggest killer of Australian women? Or that four times more women die of heart disease than breast cancer? Despite this, less than 36 per cent of people are aware that heart disease is their number one killer.
These are frightening statistics and I urge all women to take notice and not to ignore the signs of a heart attack. It should be remembered that 40 per cent of women can experience a heart attack without chest pain.
Instead women may experience other warning signs such as shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, back pain or just unexplained tiredness and fatigue. Perhaps we should get further information out to the community, such as arranging a speaker to come and address community groups one night.
The council meeting will be held this Thursday where council will be finalising the 2015/2016 budget, Annual Operational Plan and Fees and Charges and the Revenue Policy.
I appreciate all those who took time to put in submissions while these documents were on public exhibition and your comments will be discussed at this meeting. So please come and attend this important meeting as there is two sides to every story.
The first community meeting regarding the revamp of Drummond Park Playground was held last Friday and as always, council appreciates the time of those who came along to discuss the project. The second meeting will be held tonight in the council Chambers.
It's your playground, so I urge you to provide comments during the redesign stage.
The new lights are now installed at the Cobar Regional Airport and council is waiting final CASA approval and certification.
A night flight to complete the process for certification will be undertaken in late July.
The first stage of the valve replacement project is nearing completion in the area north of Brough Street.
The second stage will commence next month and covers the area south of Brough Street to the highway and bordered by Frederick and Bathurst Streets. Keep an eye out for the notifications in the paper.
NSW Public Works were in town last week to finalise the designs of the pipeline replacement project.
Tenders will be called on July 28 and a compulsory pre-tender meeting will be held on site in August. It is anticipated that the tender will be awarded at the October Water Board Meeting.
During the week the new mobile toilet block was delivered to Ward Oval. It still needs to be plumbed in before it can be used however, it is a great new asset for the community.
On the weekend I also had a phone call from an ABC reporter regarding Telstra's announcement that it will disconnect their remaining dial up customers in December.
This will have an effect on many graziers and I would like to hear from them so that we can take action before they do.
The rain has been absolutely beautiful, I just hope it keeps up.
Enjoy your week.
