A CAREER of some 20 years in the event management industry tells Dubbo resident Kim Seccombe the DREAM Festival is worthy of funding from the Dubbo City Council, and the support of the local and wider community.

With an impressive resume behind her, which includes working on some of the biggest events in Sydney such as the Royal Easter Show, the Big Day Out, the V8 Supercars and at an art gallery in Melbourne, Ms Seccombe knows a top shelf event when she sees one, and that is the case with the DREAM Festival.
"I have worked a lot in the events industry but I didn't know a lot about the DREAM when I moved here," Ms Seccombe said.
"The twilight markets were fantastic, the food stalls and all the activities were great."
After moving with her family to Dubbo at the start of 2014, Ms Seccombe volunteered at last year's event before joining the committee at the start of this year.
Ms Seccombe believes the DREAM Festival is at the point where it is becoming truly established as a must-attend event in the calendar, which is why she is so disappointed the council have not committed any funding for next year.
"It's at the tipping point," she said.
"People are really getting a strong understanding of what the DREAM is about and it's only going to get better from here.
"As it's a volunteer-run festival, it was always going to take time for it to become established and grow and it's at that point now."
With regards to calls the DREAM Festival needs a signature event, Ms Seccombe believes the twilight markets and lantern parade can fill that brief.
"I think the signature event comes naturally and I think the markets and lantern parade is the main event that most people are coming for," she said.
"It has a really broad appeal so hopefully it will attract everyone, and while people are here they can find out more about what is on offer, whether it be dance or art-related."
